NATCHITOCHES – For the third time this season, Northwestern State junior right-handed pitcher Trent Hillen did not allow an earned run in a Southland Conference start.

Hillen’s six-inning performance in Saturday’s series finale against Lamar landed him his second Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honor of the season. The award, which was announced Monday afternoon, is voted on by conference sports information directors.

Hillen’s sixth win of the season helped the Demons clinch their fourth straight Southland home series win and lifted Northwestern into fifth place in the league standings.

A junior from Morgan City, Hillen scattered seven hits and struck out three as he notched his fourth quality start in Southland play.

Hillen has allowed one or fewer earned runs in four of his eight conference starts.

Despite allowing seven hits, Hillen limited the Cardinals to one unearned run by holding Lamar hitless in six at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Hillen surrendered only one hit with a runner aboard, limiting Lamar to a 1-for-13 performance with runners on. The Cardinals were unable to extend innings against the right-hander, who allowed one two-out hit in seven at-bats.

Hillen and the Demons return to action Tuesday when they travel to No. 7 LSU. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium.
