Mayor Tom Arceneaux is extending his deepest condolences to the family affected by the
devastating house fire that occurred early Sunday morning, April 6, in the MLK neighborhood.
The fire tragically claimed the lives of three individuals and left a fourth in critical condition.
Council Chairwoman and District A Councilmember Tabatha Taylor and Mayor Arceneaux
visited the scene and the surviving family member at the hospital on Sunday afternoon to
personally offer comfort and support during this unimaginable time of grief.
“There are no words that can fully express the sorrow we feel as a city,” said Mayor Arceneaux.
“This family, this neighborhood, and our entire community are heartbroken. I ask all
Shreveporters to join me in lifting them up in prayer and support.”
Mayor Arceneaux also expressed his appreciation for the swift and courageous response of the
Shreveport Fire Department. “We are grateful for our firefighters who responded within minutes
and worked valiantly to save lives,” he said.
City officials are working closely with fire investigators and community partners to assist the
family in the days ahead. The City also encourages residents to ensure their homes are
equipped with working smoke alarms. Free smoke alarm installations are available through the
