CITY OF NATCHITOCHES PRESS RELEASE
CONSTRUCTION OF SEAWALL ON CANE RIVER AT THE MILL DISTRICT
MARCH 3, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Natchitoches, in collaboration with Cane River Waterway Commission and the Cane River
National Heritage Area, announces that work is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 10, 2025, to
construct a seawall along the west [Mill Street] side of Cane River from the north crossing of the Union
Pacific railroad northward to the Riverside Reserve Wedding Venue.
This project is being funded by Cane River Waterway Commission for the purpose of stabilizing the
riverbank and ensuring safety for boat traffic and other recreational uses on Cane River in this area. No
docks, moorings, cleats, or boat slips will be constructed as part of this project.
The contractor is CRC Worx Construction of Robeline, Louisiana. The project is expected to take
approximately 130 calendar days to complete, with most work occurring on Monday through Friday each
week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, with occasional Saturday work.
While work is ongoing, few disruptions are anticipated to traffic on Mill Street, with those primarily
consisting of times when equipment or materials are being delivered to the project site. However,
motorists are urged to exercise caution when traveling through the project area and to observe all
warning signs and flagger instructions.
For more information, please contact the office of the Cane River Heritage National Area, who is serving
as project manager. Their telephone number is (318) 356-5555
